At 12 miles from the Verlot Ranger Station you will find Deer Creek Winter Play Area. It isn’t a formal campsite but we have listed it here because in the winter months the Mt Loop Highway will close at Deer Creek and when the first big snow falls it becomes a target destination for families, skiers and anyone looking for fun in the snow. There are some great sledding hills here and a perfect cross country ski route that is less than 3 miles to the Big 4 picnic area. There are no services at this site but Its pretty common to find a few hard core car campers in the large parking lot enjoying the peace and quiet. In the summer time, take the Deer Creek road 4 miles to Lake Kelcema. A nice wilderness lake for all skill levels with only 29 feet of gain over a .8 mile long trail.
